The event brought together more than 60 stakeholders for a joint workshop exploring the needs and opportunities surrounding <strong>Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)<\/strong> and its essential role in enabling a circular economy within Europe\u2019s transition toward zero\u2011emission transport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TranSensus LCA aims to develop a <strong>harmonised, Europe\u2011wide LCA framework for zero\u2011emission road transport<\/strong>, supporting the ambitions of the European Green Deal and contributing to the digital, climate\u2011neutral, and sustainable transformation of the mobility sector. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Representing RELiEF, partners <strong>TechConcepts<\/strong>, <strong>INEGI<\/strong>, and <strong>Avesta<\/strong> took an active role in the workshop. The RELiEF contributions were delivered in a two\u2011part presentation by <strong>Anish Patil (TechConcepts)<\/strong> and <strong>Joana Gouveia (INEGI)<\/strong>, showcasing both the <strong>exploitation strategies<\/strong> and <strong>sustainability insights<\/strong> developed within the project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>TechConcepts Highlights Exploitation Strategies and Regulatory Insights<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>Part I: Exploitation<\/strong>, TechConcepts introduced the RELiEF project\u2019s overarching approach to <strong>lithium recovery and battery materials sustainability<\/strong>, emphasising the importance of the <strong>RELiEF Cluster Hub<\/strong> as a platform for stakeholder dialogue on regulatory opportunities and challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the session, TechConcepts shared key findings from stakeholder consultations and highlighted insights from a recent journal paper summarising the coherence\u2014and inconsistencies\u2014across major EU industrial and sustainability legislations, such as the <strong>Green Deal Industrial Plan<\/strong>, <strong>Net Zero Industrial Act<\/strong>, <strong>Critical Raw Materials Act<\/strong>, and the <strong>European Battery Regulation (2023)<\/strong>. These overlapping frameworks were shown to create barriers to investment and innovation, stressing the need for clearer and more harmonised policy alignment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>INEGI Presents LCA for Ecodesign and Lithium Recovery Sustainability<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>Part II: LCA for Technology Ecodesign<\/strong>, INEGI presented RELiEF\u2019s sustainability assessment work, discussing approaches to <strong>secondary lithium recovery<\/strong> and the broader context of global lithium market dynamics. They introduced the <strong>RELiEF Life Cycle Approach<\/strong>, demonstrating how LCA informs process design, supports ecodesign improvements, and contributes to the development of more environmentally responsible technologies. The integration of LCA results into business model development was also highlighted as a critical step toward real-world impact. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Panel Discussion: Data Quality and Harmonisation Needs<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the presentations, Joana Gouveia joined a panel discussion on the need for <strong>harmonised LCA principles<\/strong> across Europe. She emphasised the vital role of <strong>high\u2011quality, consistent data<\/strong> in ensuring robust environmental assessments and enabling better\u2011informed decisions in research, innovation, and circularity strategies.
