From 17 to 19 November 2025, the partners of the EU‑funded RELiEF project gathered for their final consortium meeting at the Avesta headquarters in Ninove, Belgium. After nearly three and a half years of collaborative research, innovation, and field demonstrations, the meeting marked an important milestone: the successful conclusion of the RELiEF project.
The three‑day gathering focused on reviewing results, sharing final findings, and aligning on the project’s concluding steps. The agenda featured in‑depth discussions on sustainability impacts, technology development, and exploitation strategies, ensuring that the knowledge generated by RELiEF continues to support Europe’s transition toward responsible and circular lithium value chains.
A Focus on Results, Sustainability, and Exploitation
Throughout the sessions, partners evaluated the project’s achievements—from advancements in lithium recovery technologies to insights on regulatory frameworks and sustainable process design. The collaborative environment fostered constructive dialogue as the consortium prepared for its final review meeting, ensuring that project outcomes are clearly documented and ready for assessment.
A Visit to AVESTA’s Facilities
The final meeting concluded with a visit to AVESTA’s industrial facilities, where partners had the opportunity to see the tangible results of the project, including the demonstration elements developed through RELiEF’s research efforts. This on‑site tour showcased how the technologies and methodologies explored within the project can support a more resilient, circular European lithium supply.
Reflecting on a Successful Collaboration
The meeting also offered a moment to celebrate the consortium’s hard work—culminating in a shared dinner to honour the milestones achieved throughout the project. More than a technical conclusion, the gathering highlighted the strong partnerships formed since RELiEF’s start in July 2022, laying the foundation for future collaboration in critical raw materials, sustainability, and circular economy research.
As the project officially reaches completion, the outcomes of RELiEF will continue to contribute to European policy discussions, next‑generation lithium recovery technologies, and sustainable resource strategies.
